Piedad Bassiti: I've Done homeschool for 2 years and heres the deal: A good thing about homeschool is you can get your work done fast and have more time on your hands But thats also the bad thing I've gone crazy bieng in my house all day! I'ts really hard to make freinds, so you'll be really bad socially. Im going to Public school next year cuase I cant handle it anymore, and I wouldnt recommend Homeschool
Nikki Sypult: Yes homeschool is always better than pulic school
Ayesha Genova: I'd say homeschool. I was in the same boat last year (8th grade) and begged my parents to homeschool me. They decided that would be a good idea, and this year (freshman) I'm homeschooled. Many colleges actually like and accept homeschooled kids because they're self motivated. My parents final reasoning was that we live in a small town, where about 85% of the kids in my grade have gone to the same school district since kindergarten. I don't really have a chance to meet new friends, ! and a good majority of the above people are either snotty little brats or sluts (straight from the words of my mom!) Anywho, I'd say work through to Christmas break. You'll have some time to think about it, and you can pull out after the semester is over, if that's what you choose.EDIT: Let me also add this: I hated public school. I don't particularly like homeschooling, but get it done. BUT I don't complain because I know that public school would be worse (I still have a few friendship ties to public school) and if I went back there, it would be a living hell, atleast for me.Best of luck!!*Shelby*...Show more
Vita Moodie: Its your choice whether you want to be home-schooled or put up with the daily routine of going to a public school. Out of my schooling years, I would say that my high school years were the worst years- in high school I was alone during break times and I wasn't even allowed to read in the library because the staff decided it had to be closed during r! ecess and the majority of lunchtime...I was forced to read new! spapers standing up in the library foyer instead. In class I hardly spoke to anyone and couldn't wait until the day was over. I also didn't like the routine...changing for sport/PE classes, attending school on days with NO scheduled classes, being kicked outside during breaks, having no one to talk to, being made to do subjects/assessments I didn't like etc. As a result of this routine for 6 years, my grades slipped and I finally graduated from high school with average grades. In college I feel happier as you get to be more independent and do things that you like or enjoy doing.I'm sure you'll do what you think is best for yourself..as long as you study hard, you'll get into a good college to do a desired course that you like....Show more
Frances Macky: Sometimes there is no good solution. That was the situation in my case. I was kind of in the same boat. I got the worst math teacher in the school; she had flunked out students who were good in math and I was creative ! and math was my worst subject! My dad, who always helped me struggle through math in the past was working out of town and there were no tutors offered like there are now. Plus, all my other classes were totally non-events and I was not being stimulated at all. I was a sophomore and it was the best decision I could make at the time. It is hard to stay motivated at home and it can be kind of depressing but it was still the best choice for me. Check out AMERICAN SCHOOL. They really worked with me and took the credits I had and applied them; somehow I didn't have to take as many classes with American School. It's a very old correspondent school (beautiful old building) out of Chicago. American School was a good experience for me....Show more
Ramon Dahlheimer: Hi, i'm an 8th grade home school person. This is pretty much how my brother felt when he was in high school (except the socializing part). He homeschooled throughout high school and he go into UCSD which is a pre! tty good school. Studies show that home schoolers are more intelligent! than others. Plus, you can go at your own speed, not needing to wait in class and just have the teacher tell you what you already know. You can also do independent study if you want. Either one is quite good. It will not look bad on college applications. It might even look good, mostly if you do independent study because you need independent study in college. I say try being home schooled. If you don't like it, go back. But I think that you will enjoy it. I enjoy it. Plus, look at it this way: you get to lay down, eat food whenever, don't need to work up early... and doesn't that sound fun. Home schooling for you is a *thumbs up* :D...Show more
Chris Rosenkranz: i personally wouldn't choose homeschooling because i believe that public school teaches people how to interact with people of all types including: race intellects political and other differences. the pro public school argument isn't as much about the schooling as it is the social lessons that teach! you how to interact with the adult world which is also on a side note why i believe public school is better than private school because public schools have a more diverse populous...Show more
Jude Kennelly: It looks great on college apps. Colleges LOVE homeschoolers, because they generally do better than public school kids. I was homeschooled all of my life then went to college and made straight A's throughout.
Bruce Calise: Colleges love homeschooled students. They also love schooled students who excel. Being a so-so homeschooled student won't get you into a great university. Same for being a so-so schooled student. Homeschooled and schooled students are accepted into the best universities. Princeton's freshman class was 55% from public schools, 35% percent private schools and 10% from parochial schools. I don't know how they calculate in homeschooled kids, because those total to 100% and they say they admit homeschooled students every year. There is no! special homeschool club that automatically makes you a superior studen! t. That is what you do with the homeschooling. There have been NO studies on the intelligence of homeschooled kids. Intelligence is IQ not test scores. Homeschooled kids *who take standardized tests*, like the SAT and ACT, score better. But not every homeschooled kid takes the tests, and they don't necessarily compare homeschooled students to schooled students of the same socio-economic and demographic backgrounds. You need to understand how statistics are compiled and evaluated to understand what they mean. Those results mean that homeschooled students who take the tests score better than schooled kids who do, but they don't mean that every homeschooled student is off to Harvard with a just OK SAT score. My point is that you ought to do whatever you believe you will do best in academically. For some students, that's homeschool. For others it's school. Everyone always seem to take the "in the box" view that whatever they do must be best for everyone else. Pretty n! arrow minded of both!...Show more
Donny Bankson: I'm a homeschooling mom to 3. My oldest is a senior in high school. I took her out of school in 6th grade because she was extremely introverted and felt overwhelmed in school. She was just accepted into her top choice university, top 20 in the nation, awarded a scholarship and will begin attending in the fall. You can be homeschooled and attend top notch colleges! Take the SATs, ACTs and send in your college essays. You don't have to be in a school to be able to do that.Homeschooling offers so many opportunities you can't get through brick and mortar schools. There are homeschool classes, drama, music, plays, field trips, park days, teen events, book clubs, science fairs, homeschool dances, proms, graduations, etc.We belong to af homeschool group in our area that has over 300 homeschool families. My children have made life long friends through the group and have learned to socialize much better then if they were sitting ! in a class room and had to raise thier hand anytime they wanted to talk! . Where in the real world do you do that?Homeschooling teaches you real world skills, not just to sit still, obey and be quiet....Show more
Ty Kirton: Wow, The ignorant false stereotypes are flying around tonight. People really should think outside the box and do their research before they rant their anti home schooling views on everyone. Don't listen to some of the people who posted on here, Clearly they know nothing about home schooling. They've probably never done it so how would they know? Yeah, Exactly. Jason's Parents must be chaining him up in his closet or to a table. Either that or their must be some kind of shield, force field or barrier preventing him from leaving his house because other than that I don't know what stops a home schooler from going out to socialize. Home schooling is so much better than Public School. A trillion times better (For Me Anyway). You have so much more free time & freedom to do whatever you want such as go to the park, movies, an! ywhere while the Public School Kids are locked away all day with absolutely no freedom. Look at the statistics, Home schoolers do better in college than Public School Kids, Home schoolers constantly outperform the Public School Kids on standarized tests and are often better socialized since they are living in the Real World while the Public School Kids are locked away from the Real World with only kids the same age as themselves. A situation which is clearly not the Real World since nowhere else in life are you put in segregated age groups. Our world did just fine for thousands of years without Public Schools. If you don't believe me, Look at the ****** statistics. The only bad thing about home schooling is dealing with ignorant people who know nothing about home schooling such as some of the people who posted on here. You'll have many more benefits being home schooled than you ever will in a Public School. That socialization myth is a load of bull ****. The Public School Sy! stem will try and say anything to try and get kids to stay at their sch! ool even if it's having to lie. The only thing they have to back it up is that the fact if we students don't go to Public School, They will not get any money and they will also lose money. What about all the Public School Kids who commit suicide? http://www.newswithviews.com/Turtel/joel5.htmhttp://www.hslda.org/docs/nche/000000/00000068.asphttp://ezinearticles.com/?Homeschoolers-and-Social...http://karisable.com/crssstbul.htmhttp://www.newswithviews.com/Turtel/joel28.htmhttp://www.thewaronkids.com/http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=Kid...http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/zysk1.htmlhttp://school.familyeducation.com/home-schooling/h......Show more
Toby Women: If you get homeschooled you'll turn into a squid and you'll live in your moms basement fro the rest of your life.
Lillie Yarde: My daughter was homeschooled from the 1st grade til her Junior year. She is an only child and it was great for her and she did a relaxed type of curriculum that pretty m! uch just let her follow her interest.....not much structure really. She is now 1 yr from her Masters in Environmental Science. If you are already a Junior, it would not be worth it to homeschool at this point. In Clermont Cty, Ohio there is a program where Seniors can go to our local college and take classes that would give them college credits. It is a great program. Go on line and check your area for ths type of programYou have made it this far in public school, stick it out and soon you will be home free. I totally and wholeheartedly advocate for homeschooling but it is better to deschool the parents first, start right away and enter public school around the 9th grade would be my advise.College is a lot more fun and promotes your inviduality. Good luck and I hope this was a help....Show more
Doreatha Kjellsen: If you really hate public school that much I would go for home schooling. Home schooling offers up a lot of options. You can often graduate early ! and you get to work at your own pace in a comfortable environment. Home! schooling also removes much of the busy work found in junior high/ high school. You can even augment your curriculum with junior college classes offered both in class rooms and online. Which would definitely look good on college apps because they are equivalent to taking AP classes in high school. As long as you stay some what active in outside activities like community service and keep your grades up, you should be fine. :D...Show more
Donnie Bolio: I say homeschool if school is really getting to you that bad,but I would also start some kind of counseling to find out if you have some kind of social anxiety disorder.I am a 41 year old homeschool mom. I went to highschool along time ago,and hated it.I was quiet at school and liked all of my teachers, but i hated lunch time and between classes i would hurry to my locker and get to my class as quickly as possible. Kids can be cruel, and i was overweight with acne. Ugh! right? I had a couple of friends that were popular an! d always wanted to go to the games and other school stuff. i went to half of one football game in my sophmore year and my friend left me to go hang with some of the cheerleaders so i called my dad to pick me up. Im not sure where anti homeschooling people ever came up with the idea that homeschooling was bad because kids need to socialize with other kids their age.some might, and others(like us)do not want to.i have led a great adult life dispite my public school years.but it did leave an impact on me and i will never forget how cruel people can be.i finally dropped out of school after i finished my junior year,i could not take it anymore.my grades were good, but the anxiety was more than i could bear. Homeschooling was something my parents hadnt thought of so i had to go back later and get my GED.Now my kids are 9,11,13.we have told them from the beginning that if they wanted to go to public school they could.our 13 year old tried it for about six weeks this year and we ha! d to pull him out. he is glad to be back home and he is excelling. When ! i was about eighteen i found my niche and that was taking care of the elderly and i have done that ever since, gone to college and now am homeschooling my kids and recently got baptized. So,i would homeschool and just find something to do that interests you and go from there.Public school isnt the answer for everyone.I wish anti homeschool people could understand that. Good luck with your journey and remember that if you choose to homeschool you might find yourself showing sypmtoms of happiness, glee and giddiness.LOL This is to be expected.God be with you .lilacmoon...Show more
Davis Zou: colleges like it actually. you should talk to your school counselor. the easiest thing to do is take a class or two at your high school, then do everything else at home. its what i do. That way you know what you need to graduate and everything.
Myriam Hetjonk: Homeschooling is GREAT, but you have to be self-motivated.Homeschooling gives you more opportunities to do the things yo! u want to do.My brother was homeschooled for some of highschool- and he was ALWAYS hanging out with friends. You may be suffering from Social Anxiety, which you may which to have checked out. Changing your method of education won't heal that. If you want to get a job and function in society, you'll need to sort that out.Still, as far as homeschooling itself goes- Jr Year and Sr Year are the BIG years. You need to decide where you're headed and what you want to do. Study subjects that will help this.Homeschooling looks BRILLIANT on College Apps. Colleges recognise that homeschoolers tend to be more self-directed and driven. They don't expect things to be handed to them on a plate by professors.Furthermore, the idea that Homeschooled kids are social "squids" is a MYTH. Homeschooled kids often join Homeschool clubs, scouts, they do extra-curricular activities, they join bands etc.A homeschooled person is as social as they WANT to be, they are also as educated as they want to be! .My advice is: Do a lot of reading, thats the key to good education. Th! en you can also do an online course, or just Unschool- or do some College Credits at Community College (there's many ways to do it).If you can handle the self-directed nature of Highschool Homeschooling, then I think you should....Show more
Dallas Bartolini: lol wow that first answerer is an ignorant biatch, haha. Anyways, actually colleges love having a home schooler fill in college apps. It's TRUE! It's true because home schoolers get better academic skills and that is what colleges are looking for. :)
