Toney Flaten: Thinking back to how you viewed special education as a career when you were in school, what aspect of the career did you find most surprising? How do you see the field changing in the future? What advice would you give to a new special education teacher? How do you think the parent involvement could be increased? Marya Fehn: Describe the role of an inclusion special education teacher.Unlike RSP and SDC teachers, inclusion specialists' primary focus is on delivering services primarily in the general education classroom. They provide direct instruction and behavior modification to students one-on-one in their home classroom. They also serve as consultants and collaborators to the general education teacher.What are the responsibilities of an inclusion special education teacher in managing an inclusive classroom?The manner in which th! e teaching tasks are divided between the general education and special education teacher depends entirely on the arrangement agreed upon by the two teachers. Co-teacher and team teaching are two options.Do inclusion special education teachers use direct instruction. Give examples of teaching methods used.The primary teaching methods used in special education are direct instruction and repetition. Other methods may be used depending on types of disabilities, severity of disabilities, and individual learning styles. These same principals and approaches apply to inclusion teachers, as they do with RSP and SDC teachers.
