for home theater setups is 7.1 worth the extra money?

Adam Momaya: I'd go with 5.1. The audible difference is hard to tell. Plus many speaker sets are sold in 5+1 so I'd go that route. But quality is everything. I can assure you thru experience I have made tons of mistakes with the wrong speaker purchase. I now have 5 speakers from a company called Legacy which are made in Springfield, IL. I have owned lots of speakers made from all sorts of materials & nothing beats a good speaker housing made from wood. See the link below. I cannot stress how much pleasure the full sound from these speakers provide. Anyway, treat your home theater as a hobby & take your time w/ it. G'luck!...Show more

Antone Youla: I agree with the above post. One of the only ways 7.1 is worth it, is if your room can accommodate it. If you have a small room like 12x12 or 12x14, it would not be worth it. Anything larger though you would hear a difference. A good place, if you have it available, would go to a specialized home theater shop. They wi! ll have displays with these setups available. I would not trust the demos at Best Buy or any other chain store.

Robt Betker: You started out right with the Klipsch speakers. Why would you not finish off the most important part of your system? The Klipsch speakers are far more efficient than the polks for around the same price. Grab the matching Synergy series center, left, and right, and have fun wiping the grin off your face every time you listen to home theater or music. Don't forget the subwoofer(SVS, HSU, REL, Outlaw Audio)!
