Barton Morfee: i find word of mouth works just fine. start out with some contacts thru your dad ("my son is looking for landscape maint. work, if you know of anyone who wants a good cheap gardener"). then as you get more clients---and do good work for them at a good price--you will find that your name and number start getting around, and you can raise your rates in moderate increments over time. get business cards made up. always carry them. always make good on any mistakes you might make (you WILL make them), even when it means giving the client the benefit of the doubt about exactly who killed that new bush, etc. you will find clients who always grouse and/or want the taj mahal for 50 cents (one of my axioms). feel free to lose those clients, nicely, tactfully; there are plenty of good clients out there--don't sell yourself to slavers. no, you don't ! need a license....Show more

Make up signs to post ( while working at a job site and for a week or so after , if owner agrees) - if passerbys like the work , means more business. Eventually you might want to post buisness cards at local grocery store bulliten bords, local home improvement places. It takes time.Kidd...Show more
