Daycare delimia. Opinions please?

Randolph Lozoya: This was similar to our situation. We would rather have in home daycare, but some big cons for us was that (1) if the only at-home caregiver is sick or on vacation, we had to take the same off work or try to find other emergency babysitters. In a center, they have more staff that can adjust for when teachers are out. (2) there is way more accountability in a center than in a home daycare. For example, if some kind of abuse or neglect was going on, it might be less likely to be caught and taken care of in a home care situation. A SAHM took care of my first son from 3 mos old to 11 mos old. We finally switched him to a daycare center when my son was coming home with unexplained injuries. Best wishes to you....Show more

Dee Depung: Home day care, especially if she is the only infant.Babies that young don't play with other babies. They do what is known as parallel play (sit beside another whilst playing but don't really interact with them). Chil! dren don't develop social skills for proper play until they are about 3 or 4. What your baby will need though is plenty of one on one time with his/her carer. In a day care center you have 2 carers to 8 babies more or less, they don't have the time between feedings, diaper changes and general baby care for one on one attention time and snuggles that all babies need. Babies are left to cry because they have no choice with so many to look after at once. In the home day care situation you described it would be perfect - the home day care mum would only have one baby to carry around, yours! So she would get that kind of loving attention that she needs. Normal day care is not a good option....Show more

Alonso Crehan: "4 infants, and 6 toddlers there! To me that seems like a LOT of kdis for 2 people. I worry she will just lay in a pack and play all day"No sh!t. Don't be conned; offering poor quality on-site child care is the antithesis of a "family friendly" workplace. Stay ! home or find decent care.http://daycaresdontcare.org/math.htm"! she would be the ONLY infant"That is, she'd be in a normal family grouping. Babies don't learn from other drooling babies; they learn from people who can speak. It doesn't sound like the on-site day care has anything decent to offer besides convenience....Show more

Jorge Gerrero: DEFINATELY THE HOME DAY CARE. You hit the JACKPOT with her being the only infant...she doesn't need playmates right now, she needs a CAREGIVER, which is exactly what you have with the home day care....Count your blessings and get her in there right away...before someone else takes the spot!
